20/ 10/ 2018 cumartesi sabah saat 09.’da Kıbrıs’ın Güneyinden Peo, kuzeyinden de Dev-İş, KTÖS,KTÖEÖS, ve sendikal platforma üye sendikaların katıldığı ve adına “Barış ve Yeniden Birleşme toplantısı” denilen bir toplantı düzenlendi. Toplantının amacının 25 Ekim’de yeniden başlaması beklenen Toplumlar arası görüşmelerin başarıya ulaşması için toplum liderlerini desteklemek olduğu açıklanmıştı.
Toplantı sonunda basından da ulaşabileceğiniz bir ortak bildiri yayınlandı. Toplantıya Kuzeyden ve Güneyden siyasi partiler de davet edildi ve ortak bildiriye imza atmaları istendi. Her iki taraftan da sağ partiler bu toplantıya katılmadı.
Toplantının formalite gereği yapılan açılış konuşmalarından sonra ilk söz iki eski toplum liderine (cumhurbaşkanları) Dimitris Christofias ile Mehmet Ali Talat’a verildi. onların ardından söz alan sözde ‘sol’ partiler de “dilek ve temenniler”den öteye geçmeyen kısa konuşmalar yaptılar.
Kıbrıs Sosyalist partisi adına toplantıya parti genel sekreterimiz Mehmet Birinci katıldı. Partimiz toplantı sonunda yayınlanan ortak bildiriye imza koymadı. Ne zaman toplumlar arası görüşmeler gündeme gelse adamızın iki yarısındaki ‘sol’ örgüt ve sendikalar barışa destek mitingi adını verdikleri toplantılar düzenlemektedirler. Ancak bu toplantılar barışa destek olmak bir yana, tam tersine barış çabalarına engel oluşturan bir içerik taşımaktadırlar. çünkü kuzeyden gelenler Türkiye’nin, Ankara’nın Mustafa Akıncı üzerinden masaya koyduğu tezlere destek verir pozisyondadırlar.Güneyden gelenler de ayni şekilde Anastasiades’in tezlerinin arkasında yürüyorlar. Tam 50 yıldır uzlaşmayı başaramayan toplum liderlerinin birbirine taban tabana zıt önerilerine destek olmak demek çözümsüzlüğe destek olmak demektir. Ülkemizin kuzeyinde ve Güneyindeki sol parti ve örgütler eğer barış çabalarına katkıda bulunma konusunda samimi iseler yapmaları gereken tek şey bir araya gelerek nasıl bir anlaşma yapılması gerektiğine ilişkin olarak ortak bir çerçeve belirlemek ve bunu gerek BM’ye gerekse Kıbrıs sorununa taraf olan tüm güçlere dayatmalıdırlar. Ancak bu yapılırsa Kıbrıs halkı barış çabalarında belirleyici bir özne haline gelebilir. Partimiz adına toplantıya katılan Mehmet Birinci, İngilizce olarak yaptığı konuşmada şu görüşleri dile getirdi (daha önce konuşanlar Türkçe veya Yunanca konuştu ve konuşmaları simültane tercüme edildi):

I am going to speak in English. The reason is that we consider our party as a party organised on class basis and not on the basis of ethnic communities. The Socialist Party of Cyprus is trying to represent the voice of the Cypriot and the İnternational working class.
For those of you who will criticise me for speaking in English, ı assure you that ı will not be speaking the Queens English but the Language of the British working class, The language of the Communist party of Great Britain of the Fifties!
Our party considers the worst movement of peace to be better than any war mongering movements.
Making war and propagating war is a crime against humanity and since march 1952, when the Soviet Union passed a law to this effect propagation of war has been legally denounced asa crime!
The present World peace movement is not a real peace movement. It is a confirmation of the movement of traitors and compromisors who helped to destroy the militant peace movement that was formed around the USSR during the leadership of comrade Stalin.
These traitors are enemies of peace and democracy in the World.Those who can find peace with the enemies of socialism are servants of USA imperialism.
USA and UK and France,as well as Russia are positioning themselves for a most horrific war in the Meditterranean. Their poodles Turkey and Greece, İsrael and Egypt are also being drawn into this ugly war. None of these forces have any respect for law, be it internally or internationally.
Cyprus is becoming a centre of attention for all powers involved in this war game!
Since the death of comrade Stalin there is no more any defender of the week and the international law in the UN! from the misuse of USA imperialism for war purposes.
We need to have power to be able to stop these barbarian monsters! The source of this power is our worker comrades living in the USA,UK,France and Germany! The source of this power is the peace loving and democratically minded peoples of all countries!
here in Cyprus, our people are also tired of wars and hostilities. We want peace and the re-union of our country. But this is not a responsibility that we can delegate to the community leaders who are puppets of Ankara, EU and the USA!
We cannot delegate this responsibility to the UN either, as it is an organ of war mongering imperialist powers!
As the people of Cyprus and as the representatives of the people of Cyprus, here in this meeting, we have to take our own destiny in our own hands!
How can we do this? We must outline the frame work of a real peace agreement that the people of Cyprus need; and we must force this agreement to all the ımperiqaist powers who keep us divided!
Today we gathered here, but unfortunately we are not sincere in our peace efforts because we do not have a common stand on a frame of agreement!
Half of us are ın favour of the guarantee agreements of the 1960s, and half are against!
In order to be efficient in our peace making efforts we must get together to work out a genuine framework not in favour of the imperialist powers and the local communities, but a peace agreement that will be in favour of the labourıng masses of this island as well as of the whole World!
